Abstract
279,650. Wright, F. H., and Lewis, E. W. Nov. 12, 1926. Variable-speed gearing for power-driven foodmixing machines is controlled by a lever 17, Figs. 1 and 2, which is moved out of a slot in a gate 30 to disconnect the engine clutch 7. and is moved transversely to change the speed by turning a multiple cam shaft 14. The driving-shaft 1 of the gearing carries fixed gears 3, 4, 5, 6 meshing constantly with clutch-faced gears 3<1>, 4<1>, 5<1>, 6<1> loose and slidable on a driven shaft 2. The shaft 2 carries fixedly dog clutch members 9, 10 with which the loose gears are selectively engaged. The loose gears are coupled in pairs by non-revoluble rings 12 which are selectively operated through levers 11 and cams 13, 13<a>. Each ring 12 carries a pair of gudgeons by which it is engaged by its lever 11 and there is an arrangement of springs 12<d>. Fig. 6, to allow the clutch-faced gears to be brought into clutch engagement to lag behind until the clutch teeth are in position or engaging. Both gear and clutch teeth are preferably helical.
