Commutator switching - arrangements. - A commutator - arrangement for converting an alternating current into two uni-directional currents comprises a rotary body carrying two sets of contacts e, e<1> connected to one terminal of the generator, and brushes f<1>, f<2> engaging the respective sets of contacts and connected through the circuits to be fed to the other terminal of the generator. In the arrangement shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 4, the contacts e, e<1> are mounted on opposite sides of an insulating-member c and connected to a metal ring d which engages a brush g connected to one terminal of the generator 1. The member c is carried by a disc b<2> mounted at one end of a sleeve b, the other end of which carries a chain wheel b<1> by means of which the disc may be rotated in synchronism with the generator. The sleeve b rotates on a spindle a<2> mounted in lugs a<1> of a base-plate o. The two uni-directional currents may be used for charging a battery 3, the middle point of wirch is connected by a lead 5 to the other terminal of the generator. In a modification, Fig. 6, the ring d and brush g are dispensed with and one pole of the generator is connected to the disc b<2> through the rpindle a<2> as shown by the dotted lines in Fig. 4. The disc b<2> carries plates h<1> which are thrown into engagement with pins i<1> connected to the contacts e, e<1> when the generator rotates at a predetermined speed, the plates being otherwise held out of engagement with the pins by springs h<2>. The brushes f<1>, f<2> may be adjustably mounted, on the base-plate.
