Abstract

540,811. Supply meters. LANDIS & GYR SOC. ANON. Aug. 1, 1940, No. 12453. Convention date, Aug. 5, 1939. [Class 37] A direct current meter is provided with a spark-extinguishing circuit, comprising a condenser and a resistance or an inductance, for preventing sparking at the commutator. In the construction shown in Fig. 1 a spark extinguishing circuit 9, 10, 11, consisting of a condenser 7 and resistance or inductance 8, is connected in parallel with each of the armature windings 4, 5, 6 connected to the commutator segments 1, 2, 3. The brushes 15, 16 may also be bridged by a spark-extinguishing circuit 17. Alternatively the circuits 9, 10, 11 may be connected together at one end and at the other ends connected to the junction points of the armature windings 4, 5, 6. Instead of being arranged in the armature itself so as to rotate with it, the condensers 7 and resistances 8 may be stationary and connected to the armature windings through sliprings. In a modification, Fig. 4, each sparkextinguishing circuit 9, 10 is connected between one of the brushes 15, 16 and a spring or brush 27, 28.
