[Class 35] The field system of a small electric motor particularly for use with a pocket lamp battery consists of two soft iron pole-shoes 6 in the form of hollow cylindrical segments of a length determined by the length of the armature 1 and of one or more bars 7 of high coercivity magnetic material which connect the poleshoes at one end. The pole-shoes are secured to a nonmagnetic casing 4 and two bar magnets 7 are pressed apart and against the pole-shoes by brass or other non- magnetic V-shaped springs 8. The lower part of the casing is closed by an insulating plate 11 spaced from the pole-shoes by a brass ring 12 and secured by rolling over the rim of the casing at 13. The plate 11 carries four bolts 14, 141, 15, 151 electrically connected in pairs by strips 16, 17 formed with terminal lugs 18, 19. Contact levers 20, 20<1>, 21, 21<1> constituting commutator brushes are pivoted to the bolts and the levers of a pair are pressed on to the commutator by a common spring 22, 23. The arrangement is such that the contact levers of each pair touch the commutator 9 at angularly displaced points so that the circuit is never interrupted.
