Electrically tripped switches.-An electromagnetic cut-out for use, for example, in the installations of motor vehicles comprises a permanent magnet b, yokes a, a movable switch-operating armature f and a fixed core c, with air-gaps or their equivalent e, carrying a coil d. The fixed contact is at g and a resistance of large temperature-coefficient i shunts the coil d to introduce a time lag. When the armature f is pressed into contact, the magnet holds it, and current from the coil d reinforces the holding-on action. But a reverse current diminishes the flux through the armature, without demagnetizing the magnet b, and the circuit is broken by the spring h. Specifications 695/00 and 5513/07 are referred to.
