Convention date, May 24, 1930. [Class 38 (v).] A polarized relay for use in alternating- current magnetizing apparatus is connected in parallel with the magnetizing coils for interrupting the magnetizing circuit. The relay is polarized by a permanent magnet 16 and the coil 3 is connected to the alternating current source through a switch 5 and an adjustable choking coil 2. The magnetizing coils are connected to the same source through leads 13, 14 and interposed in the circuit is a switch comprising a fixed contact 12 and a movable contact 11 pivoted at 9 and fixed by means of an insulating piece 18 to a lever 10 carrying an armature 7. The strength of the spring 17 and the attraction of the pole 15 on the armature 7 are such that movement of the armature in the downward direction occurs only when the field generated by the alternating current in the coil 3 is a maximum in a given direction, i.e. at or immediately after the crest of a positive or negative half wave, whereupon the contacts 11, 12 are separated. The armature remains in contact with the core 6 until the switch 5 is opened so that in the meantime the object to be magnetized can be withdrawn from the magnetizing coils.
