Abstract

405,000. Electromagnetic switches. INTERNATIONAL GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Inc., 120, Broadway, New York, U.S.A.- (Assignees of Allgemeine Elektricitõts-Ges.; 2 Friedrich Karl-Ufer, Berlin.) June 27, 1932,' No. 18140. Convention date, June 25, 1931. [Class 38 (v).] A switch comprises an armature located between a holding electromagnet and a releasing electromagnet energized by overload to cause the armature to strike a contact making member and to accelerate it in the opening direction within the leakage field of the releasing electromagnet. As shown, the armature 2 is normally held by the saturated magnet 3 carrying voltage and current coils 8, 10 respectively but when it is attracted by an increased current in coil 6 on the unsaturated magnet 5 it moves alone for a distance before striking the contact lever 7 which it moves away from fixed contact 12 against spring pressure. The contacts open in the leakage field of the coil 6 and magnet 5. In a modification, the magnet 3 is not polarised but carries only a series coil. The re-closing of the contacts may be effected by the spring or other means. Specification 219,723, [Class 38 (v), Electric switches &c.], is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also an arrangement wherein the armature and switch lever are rigidly connected. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
