Abstract
630,531. Electromagnetic relays. SANGAMO WESTON, Ltd. Aug. 26, 1947, No. 23606. Convention date, Sept. 23, 1946. [Class 38(v)] In an instrument-type relay wherein an iron contact 3 is caused to engage a mag-- net contact 4 by variation of current in a moving coil 1, the closure of the contacts 3, 4 controls a relay 12 which not only controls the power circuit 15 but also operates a lever to forcibly separate the contacts 3, 4. In the form shown, decrease of current in the coil 2 causes the closure of contacts 3, 4 and consequent energization of coil 12 the armature 13 of which moves to close the circuit 15 and a maintaining circuit 14 and also operates the lever 7 to separate the contacts. When later on the contact 3 engages the non-magnetic contact 5 the coil 12 is shortcircuited and the armature 13 released. In a modification, the contact 5 is also magnetic and an additional lever is provided to separate the contacts 3. 5 immediately they engage. In this case the contacts 3, 5 are forcibly separated by the attraction of the armature 13 and the contacts 3, 4 are forcibly separated when the armature is released.
