Abstract

Electromagnetic switches or relays are rendered insensitive to relatively heavy currents of very short duration (corresponding for example to one or two alternating current cycles) while retaining the full sensitiveness to normal overloads of appreciable duration by providing a suspended or floating mass 5 in the path of movement of the armature 3 to receive the energy due to the momentary current Without the relay closing. When an excess current of appreciable duration flows in the actuating winding 2 the inertia mass 5 is slowly moved aside and the circuit is closed.
