Abstract

211,158. Voigt & Haeffner Akt.-Ges. Feb. 10, 1923, [Convention date]. Switches, partly electromagnetic; thermal switches. -In a switch which is normally operated by the expansion of a thermal element through which the excess current flows, very heavv short-circuit currents which would fuse the thermal element cause the electromagnetic attraction of an armature and the consequent short-circuiting of the thermal element, while, at the same time, the armature operates the switch to the off position. In the arrangement shown, normal excess currents cause the expansion of the current-carrying element a which presses upon the lever h pivoted at g and allows the contact-member f to assume the off position. Very heavy currents magnetize the core b surrounding the element a and attract the armature c thereby short-circuiting the element a through the shunt e and at the same time acting through the link k to break the circuit.
