Abstract

377,569. Preventing sparking in switches. LANDIS ET GYR SOC. ANON., 1, Hofstrasse, Zug, Switzerland. Jan. 23, 1932, No. 2114. Convention date, Jan. 29, 1931. [Class 38 (v).] In a switch adapted for making and breaking a single circuit two series of contactcatrying springs 7, 8 are operated by a bar 16 arranged between the springs and the base and pivoted at 14, the series 8 which are arranged in parallel and carry the main contacts 13 cooperating with fixed contacts 2 and the series 7 which are arranged in series and carry the auxiliary " sparking contacts 12 co-operating with a fixed bridging bar contact 5. The bar 5 and the contacts 12 are higher than the contacts 2, 13 so that in the closed position the strips 7 are further from the base than the strips 8. In opening the switch the bar 16 first engages the springs 8 and opens the contacts 2, 13 so that all the current flows through the " series " contacts 12, 5. Further movement of the bar 16 breaks the circuit finally at the contacts 12, 5. The contacts 2, 13 are preferably silver and the contacts 5, 12 copper. The bar 16 may be operated by a time switch or motor.
