Abstract
484,915. Electromagnetic switches momentary contact switches. LUCAS, Ltd., J., MILLER, J. L., and MAY, E. Nov. 11, 1936, No. 30734. [Class 38 (v)] A switch for the timed operation of welding circuits comprises a pendulum a pivoted at its upper end and carrying an adjustable weight b. The pendulum is held in the position shown by an electromagnet c and holds open a switch k, in the circuit of an electromagnet in controlling contacts n, o in the welding circuit. The electromagnet c is connected to alternating current mains p through a rectifier q and two pairs of parallel contacts d, e and f, g which are adapted to be closed alternately by a spring toggle mechanism i, j, h. To effect a weld, the operating lever i is moved across to open contacts d, e and almost immediately close contacts f, g. The momentary de-energization of the electromagnet c releases the pendulum which allows switch k, l to close and cause the welding circuit to be closed at n, o and remain closed until the pendulum returns and opens switch k, l. The pendulum is then held by the electromagnet c which is now energized through contacts f, g. Thus operation of lever i causes the welding circuit to be closed for a period solely dependent on the period of the pendulum a.
