[Class 38 (v).] Remote controlled apparatus for connecting and disconnecting an installation from the mains upon operation respectively of the first and last circuit switches, comprises main switch contacts a<1> operated by current from the mains to disconnect the installation, a catch retaining these contacts in open position until freed by a coil a which is energized by current from a battery B or transformer by closure of a circuit switch S, and a coil b energized by the load current to hold open at b<1> the circuit of the main switch operating coil c and of the catch operating coil a ; a contact a<2> moving with the main contacts renders either coil a or coil c operative. One form of the apparatus is shown in Fig. 2, the catch h<2> co-operating with a contact abutment j. This form comprises also a coil d in parallel with the coil a which projects a catch i<2> into the path of the abutment if a short-circuit occurs in the installation while cut off from the mains and prevents the main contacts from closing. Additional contacts a<1> may be provided to disconnect all supply leads. To prevent any operation of the main switch during repairs to the installation a roller p may be engaged with the main contact carrier by manual operation of a member m.
