Abstract

522,787. Electrically - released switches. OSBORN & SHARP, Ltd., H. J., and BARRY, W. C. Dec. 16, 1938, No. 36663. [Class 38 (v)] 'When an electromagnet 1 is energized its armature 13 closes a switch 3 to energize a main electromagnet 4 which, by means of its plunger rocks or moves a lever 19 axially of the shaft 18, so moving a cam 20 sideways clear of a member 21 on a bridge piece 16, thus enabling a pair of spring blades 15, 15a clear of fixed contacts 14. The cam is restored by a helical spring 22 surrounding the squared shaft 18 on which lever 19 is non-rotatably mounted, a further spring 23 also surrounding the shaft 18, restoring the lever to the off position. The device is reset by rotating the shaft 18 against the action of spring 23 by means of handle 28, whereby the cam 20 engages and depresses member 21 to close the contacts, which are held by movement of cam 20 past the dead centre to the other side of bridge piece 16. The device can be opened by backward movement of handle 28. The electromagnet can be responsive to overload, or current from any independent source, or may be energized by leakage current. Protection arrangements.-The coil 1 may be connected between an apparatus 2 and an earthed terminal 8, the contact 3 being in series with the coil and between terminal 10, 11 connected to the mains. A change-over switch 30 operated by a press-button 31 permits a testing current to be passed through coil 1 and limiting resistance 32. Specification 482,297 is referred to.
