Abstract

199,526. Crompton & Co., Ltd., and Jones, W. F. April 7, 1922. Electrically - t r i p p e d switches; electromagnetic actuation. - Relates to tripping devices for automatic circuit-breakers opened either by excess current or by lowering or failure of the supply voltage. The device may operate the breaker either mechanically or electrically by closing another switch and may also be either fitted on the breaker or at a distance from it and to a connection thereof. Figs. 1 and 2 show its application to a current-carrying stub B of a switch frame A, wherein D is a fixed part of an iron or steel split sleeve having a movable, part E pivoted to it at F so as to leave a small air gap. On overload, the movable part E is moved to close the air gap operating the breaker through the rod K. In a no-volt arrangement, the sleeve would be held closed, but on failure of the supply pressure would be separated to operate the breaker. Spring means are provided to restore the gear and to prevent gradual closure by vibration due to alternating currents and other causes.
