Abstract

Oil switches for highpotential currents are constructed, as shown in the Figure, with the terminals and insulators mounted on the cover of the oil-pot b, and the operating and tripping mechanism mounted at the side, a single lever a projecting through the side wall of the cover and engaging with the tube o carrying the movable contact-bar d. The short outer arm of the lever a is connected to a link f, which forms a toggle combination with a lever g adapted to be operated by a solenoid i in order to close the switch. The toggle, overset in the closed position, is tripped by a solenoid k to open the switch. Both operations may be effected by hand. A number of levers, such as a, may be mounted on the same shaft in a double or triple pole switch.
