Abstract

Automatic circuit-breakers; oil switches; locking.-In order to prevent the high pressures which are developed in the oil tank from forcing the movable contact-carrying member back into the closed position when the switch is tripped to open, the toggle linkage system for closing the switch is extended to constitute a second toggle which becomes overset in the off position and consequently locks the switch. As shown, the operating rod 5, which moves into the oil tank to open the switch is connected with a link 8 to which one link 14 of the closure-producing toggle 14, 13 is jointed. The toggle 14, 13 is operated by the handle 19 through a tripping toggle and a link 16. According to the invention the link 14 is extended at 10 to constitute one arm of a locking toggle 10, 11 which takes up the overset locking position when the circuit-breaker is open and so prevents any backward movement of the contact-member except at the instance of the operating handle 19.
