Abstract

448,397. Automatic circuit-breakers. LEYHAUSEN, W., 79, Bucherstrasse, Nuremberg, Germany. Jan. 20, 1936, No. 1801. Convention date, Feb. 6, 1935. [Class 38 (v)] In a multipolar automatic circuitbreaker composed of single - pole switches, each operated by a pair of toggle levers k, l, the separate switches are provided with levers g which are positively connected together and embrace, by arms h, i, the pivot pin e or other part moving positively with the toggle levers, so that when one of the switches is tripped, the embraced part e strikes against the arm i of the corresponding lever g, whereby all the levers g are moved and the arms h trip the toggles of the remaining switches. In the arrangement shown, two switches a, b are provided, with operating levers d connected together by a cross-bar t carrying a handle v. On rotating the handle in a clockwise direction, a lever r in each switch is rotated in the opposite direction about a pivot s, and the extended toggle levers k, l, which are pivoted respectively to the lever r and to the'contact lever m, move the contact lever to the closed position against the action of a spring f. On overload in either switch, an armature w moves upwards and breaks the toggle, whereupon the switch opens, and towards the end of the opening movement, the pivot pin e of the toggle strikes the arm i of the lever g, and rotates this and thereby the corresponding lever in the other switch, the two levers being connected together by an insulating tube p. The arm h of the second lever g breaks the toggle in the second switch, which thereupon opens and allows the handle v to return to the open position under the action of a spring q.
