Abstract
652,516. Automatic circuit-breakers. SCHRACK-ERICSSON ELEKTRIZITATSAKT.-GES. Nov. 10, 1948, No. 29249. Convention date, Nov. 11, 1947. [Class 38(v)] A circuit-breaker comprises toggle links 5, 5a pivoted at 10 to an operating member 11 and at 7 to a contact actuating lever 9, both links being biassed by a spring 8 and a further spring (not shown), acting on the pivot 10. The link 5a is extended beyond the toggle joint 6 to form a lever 4 having its end engaging a guide slot 3 in a pivoted lever 2 normally retained set by an electromagnetically operated latch 1. Fig. 1 shows the circuit-breaker mechanism in the " closed " position in which the mechanism is restrained from movement under the bias of the springs by the latch 1 holding the lever 2 so as to prevent the movement of the toggle joint 6 and the collapse of the toggle 5, 5a. On overload, the latch 1 is turned, allowing the lever 2 and joint 6 to move to the left under the bias of the spring 8 which also turns the lever 9 clockwise to open the contacts (not shown). The spring acting on the pivot 10 is now able to turn the member 11 clockwise to the " off " position, Fig. 3, and in straightening the toggle moves the lever 2 back to its initial position so that the latch 1 can reset. The circuit-breaker can now be re-closed by turning the member 11 anticlockwise.
