Abstract

1,011,422. Automatic circuit breakers. HEINEMANN ELECTRIC CO. May 2, 1962 [May 15, 1961], No. 16857/62. Heading H2B. The moving contact arm 15 of a circuit breaker is operable manually by a handle 40 through a linkage comprising a pair of toggle links 64, 70 one of which is pivoted to the contact arm 15 and the other of which is coupled by cross links 55, 75 to a fifth link 50 rigid with the handle 40, the link 55 normally being latched by a pin 58 of a lever 60 which in turn is latched by a lever 44 associated with the armature 46 of a tripping electromagnet 23. Upon overload latches 44, 58 are released and link 55 pivots anticlockwise under a spring 28, arranged both to support the contact arm 15 and to bias it to the open position, thus freeing the toggle linkage 64, 70 which collapses under the action of a second spring 83, thus moving the handle 40 to the off position and re-engaging the link 55 with latch 58.
