Abstract

1,090,933. Automatic circuit-breakers. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. April 21, 1965 [May 28, 1964], No. 16901/65. Heading H2B. A circuit-breaker has a contact-carrying member 19 pivoted at 25 to a lever 23 which fulcrums at 37 on a latch 38 and is pivoted at 21 to a link 22. The member 19 is biased by a spring 27 and has a hook portion 20 loosely embracing the pin 21 to permit relative movement between the member 19 and lever 23 so that the spring may provide adequate contact pressure. The link 22 is connected by a pin 32 and slot 33 to an arcuate portion 30 of an operating member 29 which moves in an arcuate slot 30a formed in the casing 11. The circuitbreaker is maintained closed by the end of the link 22 abutting the side wall of the casing. Under overload conditions, an electromagnet 42 or a bi-metallic strip 46 move an armature 43 to release the end 45 of the latch 38 which releases the end of the lever 23 so that this lever and the contact-carrying member are turned anticlockwise by the spring 27 to open the contacts 17, 18. As this occurs, the end of the lever 23 strikes an extension 22a of the link 22 and moves its end from its engagement with the casing so that the operating member 29 is moved back to the " off" position enabling the various parts to reset automatically in readiness for a manual closing operation.
