Abstract

1,082,126. Automatic circuit - breakers. MURRAY MANUFACTURING CORPORATION. March 30, 1965 [Aug. 7, 1964], No. 13439/65. Heading H2B. An overload-responsive circuit-breaker has a toggle assembly 57, 59, 67 connected to a pivoted handle 19 and extending towards a movable contact 31 pivoted at 32 and biased towards the open position by a spring 34<SP>1</SP>. The link 59 is slotted to receive the pivot c of the link 67 and is surrounded by a compression spring 69. When overload occurs, an electromagnet 23, 47 attracts its armature 51 to release a trip lever 55 which is turned anticlockwise by a spring 34 to release the " knee " of the toggle assembly. The end of the link 67 slides off the contact 31 which moves to its open position and a spring 56 is able to restore the handle 19 to its " off " position to automatically reset the lever 55. In the off position there is no spring force in the toggle assembly which is over-set to the left by a projection 61 on the link 59 engaging a fixed abutment 63. When the handle is moved to the " on " position shown, the link 67 is initially moved downwardly until a projection 71 on the link engages an abutment 73 on the casing. This prevents downward movement of the link 67 so that the spring 69 is compressed until the toggle 59, 67 is cammed over-centre into the position shown and the projection 71 is released from the abutment 73. When this occurs the link 67 is thrust rectilinearly downwards to close the contacts.
