Abstract
265,647. Statter, J. G., and Marston, G. S. July 12, 1926. Automatic circuit-breakers.-Relates to operat ing mechanism for electrie switches and circuit breakers of the type having a pair of toggles con sisting of two members adapted to be locked together by a catch pivoted on the pivot of one of its members and when so locked forming one of the members of the other toggle. As shown in Fig. 2 the crank 18 is connected by links 21, 22 to the arm 14 of a pivoted bell-crank operating the contacts, the toggle links 21, 22 being lockec together by a hooked detent 27 engaging an ex tension 26 of the link 21. When the tail of the link 27 is moved by an overload or no-volt device the release of the detent 27 permits the collapse of the underset toggle (Fig. 1) so that the switcl opens. In reclosing the switch the toggle is first locked by clockwise rotation of the forked operating handle 5, a projection 20 on this handle co-operating with a projection 19 on the crank arm 18. On reversing the handle rotation the projection 20 bears directly on the crank 18 so that the locked toggle 20, 21 transmits the operating force to the bell crank 13, 14 and forms with the crank-arm 18 an overset toggle held in position by a projection 29 secured to or integral with the arm 18 bearing on a member 28 of the fixed framework 11. The circuit-breaker may be opened by hand either by tripping of the catch 27 or by clockwise-rotation of the handle 15, lost motion between it and the crank-arm 18 permitting a quick opening movement independently of the movement of the operating handle.
