Abstract
546,980. Electromagnetic interrupters. WESTINGHOUSE BRAKE & SIGNAL CO., Ltd. Feb. 6, 1941, No. 1595. Convention date, Sept. 7, 1940. [Class 38 (v)] A code-transmitting relay adapted to produce intermittent currents of variable frequency comprises a contact rocker 7 operated by a pendulum 37 mounted on knife-edge bearing 39a. The pendulum carries a plate 39 which is embraced by a forked end of a member 58 fixed to the rocker 7 and the rocker, in addition to carrying contacts controlling other circuits carries contacts 51, 52 which engage fixed contacts 51a, 52a of the interrupter which controls the electromagnet 33 which maintains the pendulum in vibration. The contacts 51, 51a and 52, 52a are in series in the circuit to the magnet 33 so that when this circuit is completed, polepieces 30b attract an armature 35 on the pendulum and displace it so breaking the circuit at 51, 51a. The frequency of the pendulum may be varied by weights 48 and it is held in place along its axis by screws 44 which engage studs 37h. For transit, the armature may be held fixed and off its bearings by means of screws 60, 61.
