Abstract

267,515. Siemens Schuckertwerke Ges. March 13, 1926, [Convention date]. Magnetic blow-outs.- In order to confine the arc on separation of the contacts 11, 12 to the plane of movement of the contacts and prevent it reaching the insulating barriers 15, 16, plates of magnetic material 13, 14, Fig. 2, are mounted upon the contacts or near the contacts so as to be magnetized by proximity to the heavy current circuit of the switch. The arrangement shown in Fig. 2 may be located between the poles 20, 21, Fig. 4, of an electromagnet energized by the coil 22. The magnetic portions may extend forwards from one contact into proximity with the other contact or may be V-shaped so as to embrace the contacts and extend backwards in shaped form 24, as shown in Fig. 6, into engagement with the arc-horns 18, 19. In this arrangement the arc is confined within troughs between the plates 24 and is extended by the blow-out field along the arc-horns. The magnetic portions may be removably secured to the contacts.
