Abstract
358,070. Light current relays and electromagnetic switches. RAY, F. I., Parkminster, Bushey Hall Road, Bushey, Hertfordshire, and BIDDLECOMBE, A. W., Bramshaw, Boleyn Gardens, West Wickham, Kent. May 5, 1930, No. 13763. [Class 38 (v).] In order to ensure a steady retractive movement without an appreciable time lag of the armature of a D.C. telephone &c. relay a thin plate 15 of non-magnetic material such as copper is mounted on the relay core adjacent the polepiece 6 and extends to the yoke piece 3. The action of the induced-currents in the thin copper plate 15 is to diminish oscillatory movement and to prevent any temporary re-attraction of the armature during the releasing movement but is not sufficient to slow down appreciably the time of release. In order to prevent vibration or irregular action of the contact springs, the springs which are left out of contact after the completion of the armature movement are supported by being provided with side wings which engage with the side recesses of an insulating block 10 which may be of the form shown in Fig. 8, and which may be painted white to enable the working of the springs to be observed with ease. The plate 15 may extend only half-way over the core and winding, Fig. 3, and as shown in Fig. 6, the plate 15 is moulded into the coil cheek 14a. The armature 5 is held on the knife-edge 4 formed at the end of the L-shaped yoke 3 by a spring-loaded washer surrounding a screw 16.
