Abstract

384,708. Electromagnetic switches and interrupters. BRITISH THOMSONHOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Ald. wych, London, and GRIFFITHS, L., Kennington, Biggin Hall Crescent, Coventry. Aug. 12, 1931, No. 22793. [Class 38 (v).] A combined electromagnetic cut-out and vibrating regulator for use on motor vehicles has the resistance controlled by the regulator contacts mounted within the baseplate on which the cut-out and regulator is supported. As shown in Fig. 1 the insulating baseplate 6 carries the combined cut-out and regulator consisting of a core 1 with shunt and series windings 3 and an armature 4 carried by a blade spring 14a attached to the yoke piece 1a. The armature carries one of the cut-out contacts 10 which on attraction first engages the cooperating cut-out contact 11 thus completing the charging or other circuit. On further attraction the armature by distorting the spring-blade structure 12, 14 separates the regulator contacts 7, 8 so inserting the resistance 9 in the battery or dynamo field circuit. This resistance is carried on a support 9a held under the securing nut for the core 1 so that the resistance is contained within a cavity formed in the lower face of the insulating, baseplate 6. In a modified form, Fig. 2, (not shown) the movable regulator contact is carried by a separate blade spring support which is engaged by an insulating projection on the armature after the cut-out contacts have been closed.
