Abstract
543,486. Starting prime movers ; self-contained supply systems. PORSCHE, F. April 2, 1940, No. 5935. Convention date, March 9, 1939. [Class 38 (iv)] Variable speed generators, with.-An electrical system for automobiles has an electromagnetic switch for the starter motor circuit combined with the reverse current cut-out and the arrangement is such that manual operation of a starter switch cannot effect closure of the electromagnetic switch so long as the reverse current cut-out is closed. The contacts of the electromagnetic switch may be manually closed by a press-button extending from the enclosing casing of the reverse-current cut-out so facilitating control from the vicinity of the engine. A combined voltage regulator and reverse current cut-out shown in the Figure. The armature 4 of the cut-out is held against vibration after closing by a current coil 8 and auxiliary armature 7 on a rod 6. This rod couples the main armature 4 and a spring blade 19 carrying one contact 18 of the electromagnetic starting switch so that this contact may be carried beyond the range of the other contact 17, which is operated by a coil 14 and armature 15, when a manual switch 13 is closed. The coil 14 may be arranged on the core of the reverse current cut-out or voltage regulator. The switch 13 is in parallel with the usual " charging indicator lamp 11 and is connected in series with the coil 14 between positive poles of generator 1 and battery 2. The spring blade carrying contact 17 may be manually actuated by a button 26 and rod 25. A stop 23 defines the range of movement of the contact 1. A stop 22 determines the position of a spring 21 which applies the full restoring force to the cut-out armature after permitting movement of contact 18 under the lighter yoke of the spring 19 to render the starter inoperable at a low engine speed.
