Abstract

214,509. Goodman, K. I., and Goodman, W. R. July 3, 1923. Addition to 167,515, [Class 7 (v), Internal-Combustion engines, Starting &c.]. Lighting systems.-The engine starting and electric lighting system described in the parent Specification comprises a generator 12 driven by an engine started by mechanical means such as a weight 13 or a spring on closing a switch 45 in the load circuit 44. According to the present invention, a switch 140 in the main circuit 43 of the generator 12 is automatically operated by the exciting current of the generator when the latter is fully excited. As shown, the switch 140 is rigidly connected to the switch 63 controlling the circuit of the battery 46 and both are operated by a coil 64 in series with the shunt winding 41 of the generator. The contact 61 is connected directly to the main 43 at 58, instead of through contacts controlled by the switch 53 as described in the parent Specification.
