Motors with unwound iron armatures. -An electromotor for driving a gramophone comprises an electromagnet having coils 11<1>, 11<2> wound on limbs 10<1>, 10<2> between which rotates an armature 15 mounted on a spindle 8. The armature carries contacts 16, spring- pressed against an insulating plate 17 in which four contact studs are fixed. The spindle 8 also carries a centrifugal braking-device of usual construction. As shown in the circuit diagram, Fig. 3, resistances 24, 25 are so arranged that as the contacts carried by the armature 15 wipe the fixed pairs of contacts 20<1>, 20<2> and 21', 21<2>, current passes from the source 22 through the adjustable resistance 24 and either through the resistance 25 or through the magnet coils 11<1>, 11<2>, according to the position of the armature. The resistance of the coils is equal to that of the resistance 25, so that a uniform current is maintained. Instead of a single electromagnet, several may be provided. A switch 28 in the motor circuit is controlled by a spring-actuated lever which also serves for giving a starting-impulse to the turntable.
