Abstract
534,768. Electromagnetic switches. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Dec. 1, 1939, No. 31268. Convention date, Dec. 1, 1938. [Class 38 (v)] In an electromagnetic switch the movable contact is mounted on a carriage 44 which slides with limited tilting motion on a post 42 and has springs 45, 46 below and above it, the spring 46 being engaged by the pivoted armature 35. The armature 36 is pivoted to the magnetic frame at 36 being held against longitudinal movement by a bent-over spring 41 and by co-operating lugs and shoulders on the armature and frame. An adjustable number of washers 47 are placed between the armature and spring 46. The movable contacts (not shown) on the member 44 are displaced from the axis of the post 42 so that when they engage fixed contacts, arranged on either side of them, the member 44 tilts and causes the contacts to wipe over each other. To provide a more uniform pull on the armatures 35 of an A.C. electromagnetic switch, the core 16 of the magnet has two short-circuited windings, one embracing the top portion of the slotted hole face and passing through the slot 30, the other of higher resistance embracing the top two sections of the pole face and the first winding and passing through the slot 31. The lower sections of the core face is left "unshaded" and the result is to provide a three-phase flux.
