Abstract

925,623. Alternators; slip-rings for dynamoelectric machines. DUCELLIER & CIE. May 29, 1961 [June 3, 1960], No. 19311/61. Class 35. The diodes of a rotary rectifier unit for an A.C. generator are connected to the armature winding of the alternator and accommodated in recesses in transverse flanges of slip rings mounted on the rotor shaft. As shown in Fig. 1, an A.C. generator having a stationary inductor 1 and an armature 2 rotated by shaft 3 has the armature winding 4 connected to a rectifier unit 5 secured on the rotor shaft. The full-wave rectifying circuit comprises three " positive " diodes 6, 8, 10 and three " negative " diodes 7, 9, 11 connected as a " Graetz Bridge." Two slip rings 14, 15 have extensions adapted to form two transverse flanges 12, 13, respectively, rigidly connected through an insulating body 24, negative and positive contact brushes 22, 23 sliding over the slip rings. The positive diodes 6, 8, 10 are force-fitted by their grooved housings into three openings 13a bored in the transverse flange 13 and in corresponding openings 24a of the insulating body 24. Similarly the negative diodes 7, 9, 11 extend through recesses 13b in flange 13 and openings 24b of the body 24 and are force fitted by their grooved housings into openings 12a in flange 12. The housings of diodes 6, 8, 10 are electrically connected to contact brush 23 via flange 13 and slip ring 15 and diodes 7, 9, 11 are electrically connected to brush 22 via flange 12 and slip ring 15. In another embodiment, Fig. 3, a rectifier unit 25 comprises a body 26 of insulating material, a first flange 27 carrying a hub 28, the latter forming the slip ring for the positive contact brush 40, and a second flange 29 the hub 30 of which is force fitted on the grooved shaft 3 and the insulating body 26. Three positive diodes are force fitted into recesses 27a in flange 27 through corresponding openings 26a of the insulating body and three negative diodes are force-fitted into recesses 29a in flange 29 and in corresponding openings 26b of the body 26. A ring 38, press-fitted on the grooved shaft 3 serves as a slip-ring for the negative contact brush 39.
