896,212. Alternators and electric motors. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Oct. 25, 1960 [Nov. 11, 1959], No. 38294/59. Class 35. In an alternator or synchronous motor in which, in order to avoid the use of a commutator and brush gear for feeding direct current to an excitation winding of the machine from a winding in which an alternating potential is generated, rectifiers 3 are mounted on and rotate with the rotor of the machine, the rectifiers are carried by an annulus 1 which is secured around and projects radially from the rotor and has a T- or L-shape cross-section and a ribbed or corrugated outer surface to promote heat dissipation. The annulus may be a single part and form the rectifier star point, or it may comprise mutually insulated sectors.
