An inductor alternator comprises a slotted rim 6 projecting from the rotor (as shown, the commutator) of a main machine between output stators 10, 11 secured in a channel-profile ring 7 excited by coil 14, both machines being in a common casing. The inductor generator may excite the main machine through rectifiers, and may be used on diesel-electric locomotives.
