Abstract
1,129,144. Cooling dynamo-electric machine rotors. C. A. PARSONS & CO. Ltd. 16 Sept., 1966 [30 Sept., 1965], No. 41507/65. Heading H2A. In a dynamo-electric machine, e.g. turbo alternator or synchronous condenser, comprising on a cylindrical rotor a winding whose electrical conductors A1 . . . B2, Fig. 2, carry D.C. excitation current and are cooled by direct contact with a liquid e.g. water, the liquid is fed into and removed from the conductors at places of substantially equal potential. Such places are formed by cross-connections C 1 , C 2 at the mid-points of the winding to which the current is applied at connections D, E which also convey the liquid from two conductors 10, Fig. 14, extending along the shaft from slip rings 23, 24; the current may be derived from rotating rectifiers fed by an A.C. exciter, instead of the slip rings. Each winding and shaft conductor has two passages through which the liquid flows in opposite directions, and the rotor may be in a hydrogen atmosphere.
