[Class 35] In an alternator, the armature of which also yields continuous current for supplying the field windings, a greater airgap is provided at one or more positions where the D.C. armature conductors are under commutation. In the form shown. the armature has an A.C. winding 1 connected to slip rings and D.C. for the field windings 5 is obtained from winding 2 through brushes 3, 4 and slots 8, 9 are provided in the pole faces in the vicinity of the coils under commutation.
