610,175. Synchronous machines. MAWDSLEY'S, Ltd., and MINCHIN, C. W. H. March 29,1946,No. 9802. Addition to 571,968. [Class 35] In a synchronous motor or alternator with a main armature and field magnets and an auxiliary armature surrounded by an unwound magnetic ring, A.C. windings are arranged on both armatures as in the parent Specification but the D.C. winding on the auxiliary armature is connected to a second commutator feeding an independent winding on the field magnets. As shown, the D.C. windings 11, 15 on the main and auxiliary armatures 1, 4 respectively, feed separate windings 14, 17 through commutators 12, 16. The inner radius of the ring 6 may be non-uniform and it may be angularly adjustable to vary the air gap around the circumference of armature 4.
