Abstract
854,567. Homopolar machines. CARRIER CORPORATION. Jan. 28, 1959, No. 3108/59. Class 35. In a high-speed homopolar motor, the use of slip-rings is avoided by feeding the rotor with D.C. from a rectifier and transformer secondary winding mounted on the rotor shaft, the machine as a whole being A.C. energized. The transformer comprises a primary winding 4 mounted on a core (not shown) and a low-voltage secondary winding 22 on a core 21 rotating with the shaft 20. D.C. energization of the rotor is secured by a rectifier 25, the current being fed by line 23 to flow in the same direction through all the rotor bars 36 between end rings 41, 42, and returning through line 24 passing down the centre of the rotor. Similarly, rectified current is fed to field windings 8, 9 on the stator core 10, producing a pair of like poles 15, 16 embracing the complete 360 degrees of the rotor, the return path being through poles 11, 12, 13, 14 which similarly embrace the rotor shaft.
