Abstract

690,456. Alternators. KAICK, A. VAN, (trading as KAICK AVK GENERATORENUND MOTORENWERK, A. VAN). July 18, 1951 [July 18, 1950], No. 17027/51. Class 35. The rotary armature 1 of an alternator exciter 12 is mounted on the same shaft 11 as the main machine, and the load current from the single or poly-phase alternator windings 13, 14, 15 is passed through similar windings I, II, III on the exciter armature to generate a stationary working flux in the pole structure of the exciter, the exciter output feeding an auxiliary field winding 20 on the main machine for the purpose of regulating the output voltage. The armature of the exciter carries a commutated winding connected to the auxiliary field winding 20 by brushes 21, 22 which may be rocked into a position of favourable commutation. The stationary yoke of the exciter carries unsaturated poles with control windings and may be rocked into a position depending on the power factor of the load. The armature of the main machine carries a D.C. winding 16 feeding the main exciting winding 19 through brushes 17, 18. Single-phase machines have damping windings, which may comprise a short-circuited sleeve 29 on the pole-body 25, as in Fig. 3, or may be of conventional squirrel cage type set in the pole-faces. A transformer may be interposed between the A.C. windings on the two armatures.
