720,518. A.C. generators. KAICK, E. VAN, and HESS, H. Aug. 27, 1952 [Aug. 28, 1951], No. 21539/52. Class 35. An alternator 6 is compounded for load current by means of an additional generator 8 whose stator windings carry the load current and whose rotor has a polyphase winding 9 connected to tappings on the armature winding 17 of the commutated exciter 12 supplying the alternator pole-wheel 14, all three machines being mounted on the same shaft. One end of each phase of the alternator windings is led out to terminals U, V, W, while the other ends are connected to ends of the stator winding of the additional machine whose free ends are connected to terminals X, Y, Z. Various output voltages may be obtained by interconnection of the output terminals. In a modification, the windings of the alternator and additional machine are wound in opposite phase sequence so that the exciter must have twice as many poles as the other machines, i.e. eight. In a further modification, the additional winding 9 is connected to a separate winding on the armature of the exciter. Correct phase position may be ensured by angular adjustment of the stators of the additional machine and exciter.
