Abstract
644,192. Inductor alternators. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. June 18, 1948, No. 16403. [Class 35] An inductor generator has a stator with a plurality of bifurcated poles, a winding on at least one leg of each of said poles, a toothed rotor the teeth of which have such a pitch and circumferential length that the net reluctance between the rotor and any pole is substantially constant at any, rotor position. As shown, stator 4 has three laminated bifurcated poles 12 with a winding 13 on each leg. A laminated toothed rotor 1 is provided with four equally spaced teeth 1a having a circumferential length equal to the circumferential length of the rotor slots and also equal to the pitch of each pair of pole legs at their faces, such that the net reluctance of the air gap between the rotor and any pole is substantially the same at any rotor position. A D.C. winding mounted on a plug 9 projecting inwardly from the stator provides the necessary excitation. A polyphase output can be provided by suitably spacing the poles and the stator could rotate and the rotor be stationary.
