698,527. Inductor alternators. SMALL ELECTRIC MOTORS, Ltd., and STRINGER, H. July 31,1952 [Aug. 13,1951],No. 19018/51. Class 35. The stator of a polyphase inductor alternator has pairs of teeth 1, 2 spaced 180 degrees while the pairs are spaced by 360(1+<SP>1</SP>/n) degrees, where n is equal to or is a submultiple of the number of phases of the output winding. In the form shown for a rotor having eight slots D and the stator having 6 pairs of teeth, the narrow slots A between the teeth 1, 2 of a pair carry the A.C. windings, while the wider slots B between pairs carry the exciting windings. The teeth 1, 2 are 180 electrical degrees apart and the pairs are pitched 360 plus 120 electrical degrees apart for a three-phase machine. The phase sequence of the output is in the opposite direction to the rotor direction. A modification is described in which the rotor has ten teeth while the stator has six pairs as before. In this case, the pairs are pitched 360 plus 240 electrical degrees apart and the phase sequence of the A.C. output is the same as the direction of rotation of the rotor. The exciting winding is wound in alternate directions to avoid A.C. induction in the conventional manner.
