Abstract

1,016,614. Multi-winding machines. INSTYTUT ELEKTROTECHNIKI. July 15, 1963 [July 14, 1962], No. 27891/63. Heading H2A. The single-phase input winding 1 and polyphase output winding 3 of a phase-converter are wound at different depths in the same stator slots; the output winding 2 lying adjacent the machine air gap. The laminated rotor 6 has elongated peripheral slots which carry the excitation winding 3 and adjacent the air gap a damping winding 4 consisting of insulated conductors connected together to form shortchorded coils. Some of these coils are serially connected and each group so formed is shortcircuited by a separate conductor. This construction is described as producing a symmetrical polyphase output over the load range from a single-phase supply. A D.C. machine, connected to a battery, is used to start the converter and to charge the battery when the converter is running.
