731,581. A.C. generators. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Aug. 31, 1954 [Sept. 3, 1953], No. 24411/53. Class 35. A synchronous A.C. generator having a rotating armature 11, 12, 13 has an auxiliary commutated winding 22 providing D.C. excitation for the stationary field winding 25, 26, 27, which is connected in series with an armature reaction compensating winding 35 which permits the machine to be run as a D.C. motor from terminals 36, 37 for starting up. The compensating winding is placed in the stator slots or, in the case of salient pole machines in pole-face slots. Specifications 693,011 and 699,670 are referred to.
