679,474. Dynamo-electric machines. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., and REES. M. W. T. Jan. 27, 1950 [Feb. 25, 1949], No. 5224/49. Class 35. An exciting winding of a D.C. motor or generator is fed by static rectification of alternating current induced in pole-face windings by inductor alternator action. In the form shown, the pole-face winding 6 supplies the field winding 7 of an exciter 5 which also has separate excitation 8. The excitation of the winding 4 of the main generator 1 which also has a shunt winding 3 and a differential winding 2, depends upon whether the voltage of the exciter exceeds or is exceeded by that of the separate supply (4e) rectifiers being in circuit as shown. In a modification, the winding 4 is fed only by the exciter which has variable resistance in circuit with winding 7.
