Abstract
661,810. Exciting dynamo-electric machines. RUSTON-BUCYRUS, Ltd. July 5, 1949 [July 9, 1948], No. 17704/49. Class 35. An exciter with one pair of brushes shortcircuited directly or through a field winding has compensating windings and a self-excited winding responsive to the exciter voltage and opposing the field due to secondary armature reaction. The exciter, which may have an additional field winding in the circuit of brushes 13, 14 has a "control" winding 31 and a shunt winding 61 opposed by a coil 71 connected across the opposing series winding 77 of the main generator G and by a winding 51 fed by the secondary of a transformer which has its primary 57 across brushes 24, 23. The compensating winding 41 neutralizes the secondary armature reaction flux which is in the direction of arrow 22. Coils of all these windings would be placed on all the polepieces of the machine.
