646,281. Exciting dynamo-electric machines. MATERIAL ELECTRIQUE S. W. Sept. 19, 1945, No. 24297. Convention date, July 8, 1943. [Class 35] In a machine with windings on the main poles connected to one or more auxiliary brushes, auxiliary poles are provided having series excitation and either separate excitation or excitation varying with variations of current in the load circuit. In Fig. 2, each winding on a main pole 2 is connected between a main brush 6 or 6<SP>1</SP> and an auxiliary brush 7 or 7<SP>1</SP> while the auxiliary poles 4, 4<SP>1</SP> carry series coils 11, 11<SP>1</SP> and coils 12, 12<SP>1</SP> in a closed circuit with the secondary 13 of a transformer having its primary in the load circuit. In another form the coils on the main poles are connected in series between one main and one auxiliary brush and voltage from a separate source may be fed into this circuit. In a further modification the coils on the main poles are converted across a pair of auxiliary brushes. The load may be the field coil of a main machine.
