646,346. Exciting dynamo-electric machines. MATERIEL ELECTRIQUE S. W. Sept. 19, 1945, No. 25172/48. Convention date, July 8, 1943. Divided out of 646,281. [Class 35] An exciter has shunt or separately excited main poles and auxiliary poles with windings fed from a transformer, the primary of which carries the load current of the main machine. As shown, the exciter has shunt coils 3, 3<SP>1</SP> on the main poles 2, 2<SP>1</SP> and the coils 12, 12<SP>1</SP> on the auxiliary poles are fed from the transformer 14 having its primary in series with the main machine 17. The exciter may have also series excitation, compensating coils, or windings fed from a separate source. Specifications 646,281 and 646,350 are referred to.
