Abstract
710,726. inductor alternators, transformers. VICKERS-ARMSTRONGS, Ltd., and WIGHTMAN, E. J. Nov. 28, 1952 [Dec. 21, 1951], No. 29991/51. Classes 35 and 38(2) The stator windings of an inductor alternator may be connected for use as a transformer, so that A.C. may be drawn from the output windings of the machine without rotation of the rotor. Correct polarities of the coils is produced by reversing the connections of alternate output coils and by either reversing alternate field coils for use as a primary winding or using. a. separate primary winding on the stator core. In its simplest form, shown, the stator 10 carries parallel connected field coils 14, 14<SP>1</SP> fed from lines L, L', and output coils 16, 16<SP>1</SP> connected in parallel to lines L1, L1<SP>1</SP>. When the changeover switch 15 is operated, windings @ and 16' are reversed, so that when lines L, L' are supplied with A.C. the machine acts as a transformer supplying A.C. to lines L, L1<SP>1</SP> as before. Alternatively, the core may carry separate primary windings on the same limbs as the field coils or on the exciting coils, the switch 15 being modified accordingly to disconnect the field coils from their supply and energize the primary winding with A.C. A modification is described having a larger number of poles and an external turbinedriven rotor.
