547,540. Exciting dynamo-electric machines. MAWDSLEY'S, Ltd., and PARSONS, A. J. May 15, 1941, No. 6296. [Class 35] A dynamo-electric machine has a main field 1 excited by the compound-wound exciter 4 of which the series winding 6 is so constructed and arranged relative to the shunt winding 5 that when current generated in the winding 1 by collapse of the main field flows through the exciter circuit, the field of series winding 6 is sufficient to prevent demagnetization by the reverse field set up in shunt winding 5. Regulation is performed manually or automatically by variable resistance 7 in a circuit common to windings 1 and 5. Modifications are described with windings 5 and 6 in both long and short shunt positions and with regulator 7 and winding 6 on the same and opposite sides of the exciter terminals.
